Licence and Permit Renewals for Dentists Fall 2025

General Information

On October 17, 2025 the renewal period will open for dentists. This will be for:

    • Dentists’ Annual Licences,
    • Corporation Permits, and
    • Facility Sedation Permits

You will be able to access the various online renewal forms within the Alinity portal accessible at this link.

Click below to learn more about each type of renewal including deadlines and fees.

    Annual Licence Renewal for Dentists

    Fee: $1658

    Deadline: November 17, 2025

Note: The absolute deadline for the renewal of dentists’ licences is November 30 at midnight. Since staff must review each of the 600+ renewal forms and follow up with dentists as needed before approving the forms for payment, we cannot guarantee that renewal forms submitted after November 17 will be processed by November 30.

The “soft” November 17 deadline also gives us time to support anyone experiencing technical difficulties.

Within the renewal form, as in previous years you will be required to:

      • update your profile (e.g., contact information, practice location(s), etc.)
      • upload verification of your certification in BLS, CPR, ACLS, or PALS which must be current (i.e., not expired), from a recognized provider, and include an in-person skills training component.
      • indicate the number of hours you have been engaged in clinical practice in the past 12 months.
      • indicate, if applicable, the number of sedation cases you have performed by modality and age group (12 and over versus under 12).

New for 2025: You will be asked to briefly describe the instructions given to your patients of record regarding protocols in the event of post-operative complications or after-hours emergencies (i.e., who to contact and how).

Orthodontics: Dentists who provide orthodontic treatment (orthodontists and general dentists) will be asked about their protocols for ensuring that the following has taken place prior to treatment initiation:

      • The patient has had an in-person examination by the dentist who is planning and providing the orthodontic treatment.
      • The patient has a general dentist who has been made aware that orthodontic treatment is planned.
      • The patient has had any outstanding caries or periodontal issues addressed.

IMPORTANT CHANGE FOR 2026 LICENCE RENEWALS:

Beginning in 2026 (i.e., not this fall), registrants will be required, at the time of license renewal, to provide evidence of their certification in Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS HCP) obtained within the previous 12 months.

Alternatively, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted.

The training must include an in-person skills training component and be from a provider approved by the NSRDDA.

    Corporation Permit Renewals

    Fee: $260

    Deadline: January 15, 2026

Note: Even though the permit year for Professional Corporation Permits ends on December 31, current permits will be extended to January 15, 2026 to allow for processing time after the holiday season.

The renewal form will be accessible within the Alinity profile of the dentist designated as the primary contact person for the professional corporation.

Within the online renewal form, you will be required to:

      • Review their profile and update if necessary,
      • Review the shareholder information and update if necessary, and
      • Review the Directors and Officers and update if necessary.

If you believe you should see a Corporation Permit renewal in your profile and it is not visible, please contact the NSRDDA office. (For some, the issue may be that the Corporation Permit was not renewed for 2025 and was revoked.)

    Facility Sedation Permit Renewals

Level 1 Facility Sedation Permit Fee: $150

Level 2 Facility Sedation Permit Fee: $300

      • Level 1: Sedation with nitrous oxide and oxygen
      • Level 2:  Parenteral (e.g., IV) moderate or deep sedation and/or general anesthesia
          • The applicable permit type corresponds to the deepest level of sedation employed at the clinic.

    Deadline: January 15, 2026

Note: Even though the permit year for Facility Sedation Permits ends on December 31, current permits will be extended to January 15, 2026 to allow for processing time after the holiday season.

The renewal form will be accessible within the Alinity profile of the dentist designated as the primary contact person for the facility sedation permit for that clinic.

Within the online renewal form, you will be required to indicate:

      • the name of each practitioner employing sedation at the clinic, and
      • the sedation modalities each practitioner employs.

If you believe you should see a Facility Sedation Permit renewal in your profile and it is not visible, please contact the NSRDDA office. (For some, the issue may be that the Facility Sedation Permit was not renewed for 2025 and was revoked.)

IMPORTANT: If your clinic currently has a facility sedation permit, be sure to select the form for renewal rather than an application for a new facility sedation permit.

Sedation Permits for Dentists (not facilities)

Dentists do not have to renew their individual sedation permits annually. No action is required unless you are looking to provide a sedation modality not currently covered by your existing permit.

You can verify the sedation modalities you are approved for by searching for yourself on our public directory. Please let us know if you feel the information presented there is inaccurate.

Dentists with questions about their individual sedation permits should direct them to permits@nsrdda.ca.
