Media Statement Regarding Complaints Process

As you may know, last week police laid eight charges against a Halifax area dentist relating to allegations that span many decades. The Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia fully cooperated with the police investigation and is conducting separate investigations into the formal complaints it received in November of 2020.

The proper handling of complaints is an important aspect of health regulation. We want to ensure that the public is aware of the process for managing complaints while maintaining the privacy of everyone involved.

To this end, the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia has published a statement in the media to inform the public of the process in which complaints are managed. This piece appeared on the Chronicle Herald’s online platform today and will appear in print next week.

A link to the statement can be found online on the Halifax Chronicle Herald website.  Additionally, the full statement can be found on the PDBNS website here.

Sincerely,

Dr. Doug Mackey, Registrar
