The Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia hereby gives notice that as a result of a complaint against Dr. Daniel Tam, and pursuant to the Dental Act, the Discipline Committee of the Dental Board approved a Settlement Agreement on May 28, 2021.

The Settlement Agreement contains Dr. Tam’s admissions of unprofessional conduct in relation to his treatment of a patient. Dr. Tam admits that:

  • His recordkeeping did not meet the standard of practice;
  • He failed to properly diagnose and treat a patient’s odontogenic pain;
  • He failed to properly perform fixed prosthodontic treatment for a tooth; and;
  • He failed to properly perform the extraction of a third molar.

The Settlement Agreement also contains agreed upon sanctions, including:

  • A written reprimand from the Discipline Committee;
  • The requirement that Dr. Tam successfully complete a remedial education program through the Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University, which will include the following modules:
    1. Oral Diagnosis, Treatment Planning, and Record Keeping;
    2. Oral and maxillofacial surgery; and
    3. Fixed Prosthodontics.
  • Monitoring of Dr. Tam’s practice of dentistry by the Dental Board for a period of two (2) years.
