Interested in Being Involved?
Registrants’ involvement in Statutory Committees is essential for self-regulation of the professions. Registrants possess a specialized body of knowledge that places them in the best position to govern the professions when combined with input from public representatives and others.
We also need members of the public (who are not licensed health professionals) to serve on our Committees. Public members lend important perspective and help inform the Committees’ deliberations.

COMPLAINTS COMMITTEE
PURPOSE: This Committee investigates complaints referred to the Committee by the Registrar. The process for this Committee is outlined in Sections 64-89 of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
This Committee makes a decision on the matter (known as the “disposition”) in accordance with Section 84 of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). The disposition can range from dismissing the complaint to referral of the complaint to the Professional Conduct Committee.
COMMITTMENT FREQUENCY: High
VACANCY RATE: Low
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT COMMITTEE
PURPOSE: If the Complaints Committee determines that a matter warrants a hearing, the Complaints Committee will refer the matter to the Professional Conduct Committee. (This Committee was called the Discipline Committee under the repealed Dental Act.)
The process for the Professional Conduct Committee is outlined in Sections 90-115 of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
COMMITMENT FREQUENCY: Low to high (depending on panel formation and nature of case)
VACANCY RATE: Low
REGISTRATION AND LICENSING COMMITTEE
PURPOSE: to consider applications (for registration, licensing, or renewal of a license) referred to the Committee by the Registrar if the Registrar determines that there is an issue regarding whether the applicant meets the criteria for registration, licensing or renewal of a licence, or whether conditions or restrictions should be imposed.
COMMITMENT FREQUENCY: Low
VACANCY RATE: High
TERMS OF REFERENCE for the Registration and Licensing Committee
REGISTRATION AND LICENSING REVIEW COMMITTEE
PURPOSE: to provide an impartial review process for applicants who are dissatisfied with decisions made by the Registrar or the Registration and Licensing Committee regarding their registration or licensure status.

VACANCY RATE: Low
TERMS OF REFERENCE for the Registration and Licensing Review Committee
PRACTICE REVIEW COMMITTEE
PURPOSE: to conduct practice reviews in accordance with the Regulations, the direction of the Board and the terms of reference. This is the Committee which oversees the Regulator’s current Dental Practice Review process which is described in the document found at this link. The NSRDDA’s Practice Review process will see an evolution in 2026 to comply with the requirements set out by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and General Regulations.
COMMITMENT FREQUENCY: Low
VACANCY RATE: Low
FITNESS-TO-PRACTISE COMMITTEE
PURPOSE: to to hold hearings and make determinations in cases where a registrant’s physical or mental capacity may impair their ability to practise safely and competently.

REINSTATEMENT COMMITTEE
PURPOSE: to review applications for reinstatement of registration or licence following a revocation or resignation authorized under the RHPA-NS of a registrant’s registration or licence.
